Christians will do well to turn to Saint Joseph

On March 19, 1905, Saint Joseph himself told the Breton Stigmatist, Marie-Julie Jahenny, speaking of the coming chastisement, after announcing that the punishments will be increased because no notice was taken of the warnings of Our Lady of Salette, added: "Ah, I am invoked very little . . . And yet, I come immediately after Jesus and Mary, Who take pleasure in keeping their treasures at my disposition . . . And note well, I have more pleasure in granting your request than you have of having them granted . . . Why? Yes, why do you invoke me so little? . . . "

--------Marie-Julie Jahenny: THE BRETON STIGMATIST,
Marquis de la Franquerie

crucifixion3.jpg (1600 bytes)When Jesus Christ, while hanging on the Cross, said to His blessed Mother, pointing at the same time to Saint John the Apostle, "Woman, behold thy son . . . Behold thy mother", He intended to place all the human race under her protection in the person of the beloved disciple, who then, says Saint Bernardine of Sienna, represented all the 'elect'.

In like manner, we may believe that the Eternal Father, in appointing Saint Joseph, in his capacity of Head of the Holy Family, to guide and protect Jesus and Mary during the flight into Egypt, to watch over and provide for them, designed to place all men under his fatherly care, and to inspire them with veneration for a Saint to whom He confided the most precious trust ------ the Savior of the World, the Incarnate Word, the Source of all Delights, and the Center of all the Riches of Paradise. This motive alone suffices to inspire us with a tender devotion to Saint Joseph; but a still more powerful one is the example which the Son of the Most High has given us.

Ancient Miraculous Prayer to Saint Joseph

This prayer was found in the fiftieth year of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In 1505 it was sent from the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle. Whoever shall read this prayer or hear it or keep it about themselves shall never die a sudden death, or be drowned, nor shall poison take effect on them; neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy, nor shall they be burned in any fire, nor shall they be overpowered in battle.

O Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.

O Saint Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession, and obtain for me from your Divine Son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, Our Lord; so that having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

O Saint Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms; I dare not approach while He reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss His fine Head for me, and ask Him to return the Kiss when I draw my dying breath, Saint Joseph, Patron of departing souls, pray for us.

Amen.

Many miracles have been attributed to this daily prayer.

2nd Prayer to Saint Joseph

stj12.jpg (9837 bytes)Blessed Joseph, husband of Mary, be with us this day. You protected and cherished the Virgin; loving the Child Jesus as your Son, you rescued Him from the danger of death. Defend the Church, the household of God, purchased by the Blood of Christ.

Guardian of the Holy Family, be with us in our trials. May your prayers obtain for us the strength to flee from error and wrestle with the powers of corruption so that in life we may grow in holiness and in death rejoice in the crown of victory.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph Before Mass

stj13.jpg (9641 bytes)O Blessed Joseph, happy man, to whom it was given not only to see and to hear that God Whom many kings longed to see, and saw not, to hear, and heard not; but also to carry Him in your arms, to embrace Him, to clothe Him, and guard and defend Him.

V - Pray for us, O Blessed Joseph.
R - That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

O God, Who has given us a royal priesthood, we beseech Thee, that as Blessed Joseph was found worthy to touch with his hands, and to bear in his arms, Thy only-begotten Son, born of the Virgin Mary, so may we be made fit, by cleanness of heart and blamelessness of life, to minister at Thy holy altar; may we, this day, with reverent devotion partake of the Sacred Body and Blood of Your Only-begotten Son, and may we in the world to come be accounted worthy of receiving an everlasting reward. Through the same Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph for the Whole Church

stj14.jpg (10414 bytes)O Glorious Saint Joseph, you were chosen by God to be the foster father of Jesus, the most pure spouse of Mary, ever Virgin, and the head of the Holy Family. You have been chosen by Christ's Vicar as the heavenly Patron and Protector of the Church founded by Christ.

Protect the Sovereign Pontiff and all bishops and priests united with him. Be the protector of all who labor for souls amid the trials and tribulations of this life; and grant that all peoples of the world may be docile to the Church without which there is no salvation.

Dear Saint Joseph, accept the offering I make to you. Be my father, protector, and guide in the way of salvation. Obtain for me purity of heart and a love for the spiritual life. After your example, let all my actions be directed to the greater glory of God, in union with the Divine Heart of Jesus, the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and your own paternal heart. Finally, pray for me that I may share in the peace and joy of your holy death.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph for the Spirit of Work

stj3.jpg (9697 bytes)Glorious Saint Joseph, model of all who pass their life in labor, obtain for me the grace to work in a spirit of penance to atone for my many sins; to work conscientiously, putting the call of duty above my own inclinations; to work with gratitude and joy, considering it an honor to use and develop by my labor the gifts I have received from God; to work with order, peace, moderation and patience, without ever recoiling before weariness or difficulties.

Help me to work, above all, with purity of intention and with detachment from self, having always before my eyes the hour of death and the accounting which I must render of time lost, talents wasted, good omitted, and vain complacency in success, which is so fatal to the work of God. All for Jesus, all for Mary, all after your example, O Patriarch Joseph! This shall be my watchword in life and in death.

Amen

Prayer to Saint Joseph to Know One's Vocation

stj4.jpg (10308 bytes)O Great Saint Joseph, you were completely obedient to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Obtain for me the grace to know the state of life that God in His Providence has chosen for me. Since my happiness on earth, and perhaps even my final happiness in heaven, depends on this choice, let me not be deceived in making it.

Obtain for me the light to know God's Will, to carry it out faithfully, and to choose the vocation which will lead me to a happy eternity.

Amen

Prayer to Saint Joseph for a Happy Death

stj9.jpg (19858 bytes)O Blessed Joseph, you gave your last breath in the loving embrace of Jesus and Mary. When the seal of death shall close my life, come with Jesus and Mary to aid me. Obtain for me this solace for that hour - to die with Their holy Arms around me. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, I commend my soul, living and dying, into Your sacred Arms.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph, Patron of Carpenters

stj2.jpg (14934 bytes)Dear Saint Joseph, you are the Patron of the family of the Church. God chose you to be the head and protector of the Holy Family of Nazareth. You chose to do a carpenter's work which made some say about Jesus: "Is He not the carpenter's Son?" Deign to bless and encourage carpenters whose work is so much like yours.

Amen

Prayer to Saint Joseph the Workman

stj8.jpg (5867 bytes)We speak to you, O blessed Joseph, our protector on earth, as one who knows the value of work and the response of our calling. We address you through your holy spouse, the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and knowing the fatherly affection with which you embraced Our Lord Jesus, ask that you may assist us in our needs, and strengthen us in our labors.

By our promise to do worthily our daily tasks, keep us from failure, from a greedy mind, and from a corrupt heart. Be our watchful guardian in our work, our defender and strength against injustice and errors. As we look to your example and seek your assistance, support us in our every effort, that we may come to everlasting rest with you in the blessedness of heaven.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph, for Protection

stj15.jpg (17727 bytes)We come to you, O blessed Joseph, in our distress. Having sought the aid of your most blessed spouse, we now confidently implore your assistance also. We humbly beg that, mindful of the affection which bound you to the Immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and of the fatherly love with which you cherished the Child Jesus, you will lovingly watch over the heritage which Jesus Christ purchased with His Blood, and by your powerful intercession help us in our urgent need. Prudent guardian of the Holy Family, protect the chosen people of Jesus Christ; drive far from us, most loving father, all error and corrupting sin. From your place in heaven, most powerful protector, graciously come to our aid in this conflict with the powers of darkness, and as of old you delivered the Child Jesus from danger of death, so now defend the holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity. Extend to each one of us your continual protection, that, led on by your example, and borne up by your strength, we may be able to live and die in holiness and obtain everlasting happiness in heaven.

Amen

To Saint Joseph for Protection

stj18.jpg (3891 bytes)Gracious Saint Joseph, protect me and my family from all evil as you did the Holy Family. Kindly keep us ever united in the love of Christ, ever fervent in imitation of the virtue of our Blessed Lady, your sinless spouse, and always faithful in devotion to you.

Amen

Prayer to Saint Joseph, Patron of Workers

stj17.jpg (19173 bytes)Glorious Saint Joseph, you are the pattern of all who work. Obtain for me, please, the grace to work conscientiously and to put devotion to duty before my selfish inclinations. Help me to labor in thankfulness and joy, for it is an honor to employ and to develop by my labor the gifts I have received from almighty God.

Grant that I may work in orderliness, peace, moderation and patience without shrinking from weariness and difficulties. I offer my fatigue and perplexities as reparation for sin. I shall work, above all, with a pure intention and with detachment from self, having always before my eyes the hour of death and the accounting which I must then render of time ill-spent, of talents unemployed, of good undone, and of empty pride in success, which is so fatal to the work of God.

For Jesus through Mary, all in imitation of you, good Saint Joseph. This shall be my motto in life and in death.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph for Purity

stj19.jpg (5658 bytes)O Blessed Saint Joseph, faithful guardian and protector of virgins, to whom God entrusted Jesus and Mary, I implore you by the love which you did bear them, to preserve me from every defilement of soul and body, that I may always serve them in holiness and purity of love.

Amen

Papal Prayer to Saint Joseph

stj16.jpg (11705 bytes)Glorious Saint Joseph, model of all who are devoted to labor, obtain for me the grace to work in the spirit of penance in expiation of my many sins; to work conscientiously by placing love of duty above my inclinations; to gratefully and joyously deem it an honor to employ and to develop by labor the gifts I have received from God, to work methodically, peacefully, and in moderation and patience, without ever shrinking from it through weariness or difficulty to work; above all, with purity of intention and unselfishness, having unceasingly before my eyes death and the account I have to render of time lost, talents unused, good not done, and vain complacency in success, so baneful to the work of God.

All for Jesus, all for Mary, all to imitate thee, O patriarch Saint Joseph! This shall be my motto for life and eternity.

Amen

Pope Saint Pius X

Ad te beáte Joseph

stj20.jpg (9130 bytes)To thee, O blessed Joseph, do we have recourse in our tribulation, and, having implored the help of thy thrice-holy Spouse, we confidently invoke thy patronage also. By that charity wherewith thou wast united to the immaculate Virgin Mother of God, and by that fatherly affection with which thou didst embrace the Child Jesus, we beseech thee and we humbly pray, that thou wouldst look graciously upon the inheritance which Jesus Christ hath purchased by His Blood, and assist us in our needs by thy power and strength.

Most watchful guardian of the Holy Family, protect the chosen people of Jesus Christ; keep far from us, most loving father, all blight of error and corruption; mercifully assist us from Heaven, most mighty defender, in this our conflict with the powers of darkness; and, even as of old thou didst rescue the Child Jesus from the supreme peril of His life, so now defend God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity; keep us one and all under thy continual protection, that we may be supported by thine example and thine assistance, may be enabled to lead a holy life, die a happy death and come at last to the possession of everlasting blessedness in Heaven.

Amen.

Decree of Pope Leo XIII, August 20, 1885

Farmer's Prayer to Saint Joseph

stj21.jpg (6932 bytes)O glorious Saint Joseph, foster father of Jesus, you did provide for the Holy Family. We commit to your protection all our crops and farm industries.

Deign, we beseech you, to intercede in our behalf with Almighty God, Who rules the seasons, so that our fields being safe from pests and favored by the weather may yield abundant crops that will allow us to supply the wants of life. Thus freed from earthly worries may we, after your example, apply all our thoughts to eternal life.

We beseech you to instill a love of the land into the hearts of our youth for their own salvation and that of Christian unity, so that we may all share hereafter in the same blissful life you enjoy in heaven.

Amen.

Prayer to Saint Joseph

stj7.jpg (18528 bytes)To you, O blessed Joseph, we fly in our tribulation and, after imploring the help of your most holy spouse, we ask also with confidence for your patronage. By the affection which united you to the Immaculate Virgin, Mother of God, and the paternal love with which you embraced the Child Jesus, we beseech you to look kindly upon the inheritance which Jesus Christ acquired by His precious Blood, and by your powerful aid to help us in our needs.

Protect, most careful guardian of the holy family, the chosen people of Jesus Christ. Keep us, most loving father, from all pestilence of error and corruption. Be mindful of us, most powerful protector, from your place in heaven, in this warfare with the powers of darkness; and, as you did snatch the child Jesus from danger of death, so now defend the holy Church of God from the snares of the enemy and from all adversity. Guard each one of us by your perpetual patronage, so that sustained by your example and help, we may live in holiness, die a holy death, and obtain the everlasting happiness of heaven.

Remind all who work that they are not alone in their labor, their joy, or their sufferings, because Jesus and Mary are by their side supporting them, wiping sweat from their brows, and setting a value on their toil. Teach them to use their labor, as you did, as a supreme means of attaining holiness.

Amen.
